Botanical: Carex oshimensis 'Evergold'
Common: Ornamental Grass
General Characteristics: Fountains of narrow leaves with broad cream stripes adorn this clump-forming, shade-loving grass. 'Evergold' is lovely spilling over into a path or as an architectural feature in a container or window box. It is long lasting and easy to grow! This is one of the most beautiful of all the sedges available. The dramatic weeping habit lends itself to a number of landscape settings...as a woodland border, near a water feature, or used as an eye-catching mass...stunning! As with all sedges, it's highly deer-resistant.
Ornamental Grasses are gaining in popularity all over the U.S. due to their undemanding nature and long lasting, year round beauty. There is nothing that adds such interesting forms, textures and movement to a garden, than with this diverse plant group. They can be planted along banks of ponds, incorporated into perennial gardens, grouped together, utilized as a ground cover along walkways, paths or on steep banks. They aren't fussy about soil requirements, are drought tolerant as well as insect and disease resistant.
Tip: Easily grown in medium to wet soil in part shade. Foliage color richer in shade than in sun. Tends to languish in full shade. Thrives in moist soil, but also does well in average garden soil. Soil must not be allowed to dry out, however. Cut back to the ground in late winter. May benefit from a winter mulch.
Use: With regular watering, may be massed or grouped in the woodland garden or border. May be used to edge a woodland path. Also may be grown in low spots or along ponds or streams. May be used in the rock garden or spilling over a rocky slope.
