Onion, ‘Super Sweet, Candy’

A ‘Super Sweet, Candy’ onion is so sweet you can eat it raw. Great for cooking, very healthy and easy to grow! The jumbo yellow-skin globes have sweet, white flesh. They will produce plentifully, too. They can be grown to softball size! ‘Super Sweet, Candy’ onions are ideal for onion rings, salads, sandwiches, baking and sauces. Onions are one of the most popular vegetables in the home garden. They are easy to grow and they perform best in well-drained, slightly acidic, fertile soil in full sun.

Dry bulbs will be ready for harvest when tops have dried and fallen over naturally, usually in August or September. Lift onions gently with a fork and store in cool, dry conditions.

Planting/Care Instructions +

Soil: Add manure or organic compost to the soil several weeks before planting. Soil should be tamped down firm before planting. Onions will grow in most types of soil. Onions prefer a slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 - 6.5 for optimal growing. Ensure that the soil is well drained.

Easy to Grow: 1. Push the sets 1-2" into the soil at 4" intervals for dry onions. 2. Cover with 1/2" of dirt. 3. Water immediately.

Planting Instructions: Plant your Super Sweet Onion Bulbs in the spring (as early as you can work the soil). Plant the bulbs in well-drained, well-cultivated soil. Plant onions bulbs 4" apart in the row for a 3-5" onion. Gardeners should plant as early as possible (frost will not hurt the bulbs). Four to five weeks after planting, sidedress with additional fertilizer. Place the fertilizer in a narrow band about 2 to 3 inches from the base of the onion plants.

When to Plant Outdoors: Plant in the spring, after the ground warms to about 50ยบ F.
