Ornamental Grass, Carex morrowii 'Ice Dance'
Item F21OG195

'Ice Dance' has wide green arching leaves with a prominent creamy-white margin and brown to white seed heads. 'Ice Dance' is a descriptive name for this eye-pleasing sedge. While the early-spring flowers are insignificant, the strappy leaves are striped with a clean white edge and complement just about any companion. 'Ice Dance' is evergreen and adds a sense of permanence to the winter shade garden. Remove any tattered leaves in early spring and then let it go for the rest of the growing season.

'Ice Dance' is a dense, spreading sedge grown for its foliage that has creamy-white margins and dark green centers. Stems are triangular compared to rounded grass stems. Flower stems are solid without nodes (compared to grasses, which are usually hollow with nodes). This sedge is evergreen in warm climates. Grow as a groundcover in woodland areas or in a shade garden.

Size: #1 · Hardiness: Zones 5-9

Common: Variegated sedge · Family: Cyperaceae

Botanical: Carex morrowii 'Ice Dance'

Height: 12-15" · Spacing: 1-3' wide

Exposure: Partial Light Shade to Full Shade · Bloomtime: April-July

Flower: White & Light Brown · Foliage: Variegated Green Foliage

Care Information: Likes partial shade and moist soil. Divide between spring and early summer.

Noteworthy Characteristics: Showy Foliage. Slow spreader. Great groundcover for partly shady, moist sites. An easy groundcover - but is not invasive. Ornamental Grasses are gaining in popularity all over the U.S. due to their undemanding nature and long lasting, year round beauty. There is nothing that adds such interesting forms, textures and movement to a garden, than with this diverse plant group. They can be planted along banks of ponds, incorporated into perennial gardens, grouped together, utilized as a ground cover along walkways, paths or on steep banks. They aren't fussy about soil requirements, are drought tolerant as well as insect and disease resistant.

Uses: Beds and Borders, Ground Covers, Naturalizing, Waterside and Woodland Gardens.

Growing Tips: Needs wet or constantly moist soil. Great for those very wet problem areas.

Problems: Infrequent.

Planting instructions: Dig a hole large enough to hold the roots. Fill the hole with water and position the plant so the crown (where the root meets the stem) is just slightly below the soil line. Fill the hole with soil and water again. A slow release fertilizer may be used each spring, though it’s not necessary.
